Are civil servants taxed differently in Cyprus?
No. Income tax is identical — the same 2026 bands, the same deductions, the same treatment of the 13th salary — and there is no public-sector exemption. GESY and social insurance are withheld at the standard employee rates, on the same insurable-earnings ceiling. What differs is the pay and what else appears on the payslip: public-sector pay follows the A1–A16 combined scales, appointments from 1/1/2012 spend their first 24 months on a reduced entry scale (lower gross, so lower tax), and civil servants also contribute to their own occupational schemes, which sit on top of the state system. Those schemes depend on when you were appointed — confirm your own case with the Treasury.
