DEDUCTIONS

Are provident fund and life insurance contributions deductible?

Yes, but they share one basket. Social insurance, GESY, contributions to an approved provident or pension fund (deductible up to 10% of your remuneration) and life-assurance premiums are added together, and the whole basket is capped at one fifth of your income — the “Article 14” restriction. Worked example for 2026: on €30.000 gross with no fund, tax is €913,00. Paying 10% (€3.000) into a provident fund would take the basket to €6.435, but the cap allows €6.000 — so taxable income falls to €24.000 and tax to €400,00. That is €513 saved, not the €600 the 20% rate alone suggests.
